Tome shut down. Here's where its users went.

Tome retired its viral AI presentation app in 2025 — its founders left to build a different company, and any decks that weren't exported are gone. The closest all-round replacement is Gamma, but the right pick depends on how you actually work.

None of these is Tome. If it was Tome's card-by-card, scroll-style storytelling you'll miss most, Gamma's card decks feel the most familiar.

Tome shutdown: common questions

Is Tome still available?

No. Tome retired its AI presentation product in 2025. The founding team moved on to a new company (Lightfield, a sales-intelligence tool), and the Tome brand was later acquired for a different, document-summarization use. The slide app people knew is gone.

Why did Tome shut down?

Its founders said they couldn't find a sustainable path for a consumer AI-slides product and chose to focus their next company elsewhere — even though Tome had reportedly grown to around 20 million users before the wind-down.

Can I recover my old Tome decks?

Only if you exported them (to PDF or PowerPoint) before the shutdown. Decks left only inside Tome were not carried over. Going forward, pick a tool that exports to PowerPoint or Google Slides so your files stay yours — all three picks above do.

What's the best free Tome alternative?

Gamma. It has a genuinely usable free tier and exports to PowerPoint, PDF and Google Slides, so you can rebuild a deck and keep it. MagicSlides also has a free tier if you'd rather generate from a document or a link.

Don't lose another deck to a shutdown.

Gamma has a free tier and exports to PowerPoint, PDF and Google Slides — so your decks are always yours to keep.
